Stop trying to fix a broken business with marketing🛑
Or, to put it more graphically:
Putting more money into marketing won’t save a broken product any more than putting a Band-Aid on a severed head.
23 years ago, one of my professors said:
You can spend millions on advertising.
Build the best distribution.
Create brilliant campaigns.
Bring thousands of customers into the store.
And then lose them because of one rude cashier.
You’re not looking for a marketer. You’re looking for a miracle.
23 years later… replace the cashier with:
👉 broken onboarding
👉 endless KYC
👉 poor UX
👉 support that replies three days later
👉 compliance nobody understands
Nothing has changed.
I’ve worked across investment platforms, lending businesses, payment infrastructure and digital assets. And I keep seeing the same pattern.
Marketing is expected to:
🔨 compensate for weak positioning
🔨 fix product-market fit
🔨 overcome poor onboarding
🔨 outsmart compliance
🔨 replace customer support
🔨 explain a product nobody actually wants
Then, when growth doesn’t happen… “The marketing isn’t working.” Really?
According to CB Insights, the most common reasons startups fail are:
► they run out of capital - 70%
► poor product-market fit - 43%
► wrong market timing or macroeconomic conditions - 29%
► unsustainable unit economics - 19%
► ineffective strategic pivot - 6%
► outcompeted by rivals - 6%
► operational or leadership challenges - 5%
► technical or clinical issues - 3%
► fraud or legal problems - 3%
Notice something? Marketing isn’t on the list👀
If you need someone to compensate for a broken business model, a weak product, poor execution and five disconnected departments…
You’re not looking for a marketer. You’re looking for a miracle.
